Let there be Thrash!

England may not be the first country you think of when it comes to Thrash Metal. Yet, its hard not to think of Onslaught when mentioning legendary bands of the genre. ‘Power From Hell’ (1985) and ‘The Force’ (1986) have a well deserved place in the collection of any old school Metal fanatic and the British quintet continues to release quality Thrash records.

Formed as a Punk band in the early eighties by guitarist Nige Rockett and drummer Steve Grice, Onslaught gradually transforms into Britain’s finest Thrash collective. A natural progression, according to Rockett. The speeding frenzy of neck breaking riffs, ripping leads and powerful songs made the aforementioned albums a success among the European underground.

The huge success of ‘THE FORCE’ album saw a wealth of major labels chasing Onslaughts signatures for the release of the 3rd album ‘In Search Of Sanity’. The band eventually signed with ‘London records (Polygram)’ before releasing ISOS in 1989, but this was not to be without controversy... Sy Keeler was unceremoniously sacked by the record company and Steve Grimmett was brought in as his replacement. The ISOS album is the bands biggest selling release to date, containing blistering thrashers like ‘Lightning War’ ‘Powerplay’ and the truly epic ‘Welcome To Dying’. But once again internal problems reared their ugly head just as the band were tipped to rise to even bigger things, Steve Grimmett quit the band after less than 1 year in the ranks.

In 2007 the band release through Candlelight records ‘Killing Peace’, the musical equivalent of being hit in the teeth with a sledgehammer, featured the high speed Thrash the band is notorious for, combined with crushing mid tempo tracks, with Keeler soaring on top that more powerful than ever, and was a fist in the face of anyone who deemed the Brits dead.

In 2010 a new chapter is about to come, the band signs with AFM records from Germany to release their 5th studio Album late this fall. Nige Rockett comments: “It's extremely violent and back to our roots in many ways, but also sounding very contemporary in its entirety. We just can't wait to get it out there and play these Flippin (Or a word like that) live, cuz that's what this record has been written for; crushing skulls.” And that's the best way to experience Onslaught, as with many like-minded bands, is seeing them live.

A preview to that can already be heard on 2009’s ‘Live Damnation’, on which new members Jeff Williams (bass) Andy Rosser-Davies (lead guitar) can be heard for the first time. Be sure to check Onslaught out when they're around, because their future only promises to be even more heavy and crushing than ever before!

Guitarist and Founder member Nige Rockett has been at the front of Onslaught for the entire history of the band. He is a discerning guitarist, used to the very best. So he is very happy to be part of the team, showing just how brutal a Dean Razorback V can be! This is his own custom model sporting the 666 logo in the headstock

Andy Rosser-Davies joined the band back in 2008 to bring his trademark lead lines to the mayhem. An avid collector of fine Guitars he is a true ambassador for the brand. His enthusiasm and great playing make him a perfect addition to the Dean Family and we are proud to have him onboard. Here he is at 2010 Bloodstock sporting his Dean MAB1 Custom Lazer guitar. Look out for him playing a selection of Dean ML's from his arsenal of Dean Weapons.
